RadSite’s MIPPA Accreditation Program Standards version 3.1 Promotes Best Practices

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Annapolis, MD, November 18th, 2020 —RadSite,™ a leading accrediting organization promoting performance and quality-based imaging practices, recently launched the MIPPA Accreditation Program (MAP) Standards version 3.1, featuring more than a dozen specialty modules for advanced diagnostic imaging (ADI).

RadSite’s Standards Committee Chair, Eliot Siegel, MD, notes: “RadSite began working on the revised Standards late last year and worked closely with the RadSite Standards Committee members and other stakeholders, including payers and the U.S. Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to finalize the new specialty modules.” He adds that “RadSite also made several important updates to its professional experience, clinical protocol, and physics requirements.”

Currently, RadSite offers three MAP ADI accreditation programs covering CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine (i.e., PET, PET/CT and SPECT) imaging providers (also known as imaging suppliers). Successful RadSite applicants will continue to receive a general accreditation seal for each ADI modality, but also may apply and be recognized for one or more clinical subspecialty areas under MAP Standards version 3.1.

“RadSite’s accreditation review requirements were augmented to allow imaging providers to apply for each specialty exam type,” said Patrick D. Browning, MD, MA, MSL, RadSite’s Chief Medical Officer. “Additional imaging exams must be submitted, evaluated, and scored as part of the enhanced technical evaluation to qualify for a specialty certification. Further, the new Standards require applicants to demonstrate experience and proficiency for each specialty module.” Dr. Browning also adds, “As part of the accreditation process, RadSite continues to invest time and energy to educate and share best practices with organizations that apply for accreditation.”

The following specialty modules will be covered going forward:

  • CT: Angiography, Body, Cardiac, Maxillofacial, Musculoskeletal, and Neurologic;
  • MRI: Angiography, Body, Breast, Cardiac, Functional, Musculoskeletal, and Neurologic; and
  • NucMed: Planar/SPECT – Cardiac and PET or PET/CT – Cardiac, Infection, Neurologic, Oncology.

“RadSite is working with several applicants who have recently applied for one or more of the new specialty modules,” notes Garry Carneal, JD, MA, RadSite’s President and CEO. “RadSite recently updated its online accreditation portal to ensure a seamless and meaningful review process for new and reaccreditation applicants, who now must apply under MAP Standards v 3.1.” RadSite’s online accreditation directory will highlight the new imaging specialty designations for each accredited imaging provider.”
