Quality Expert Has Helped Launch 25 Accreditation Programs

Annapolis, MD, December 21st, 2020 —RadSite,™ a leading accrediting organization promoting performance and quality-based imaging practices, recognizes Garry Carneal’s tenth anniversary as President and Chief Executive Officer.

In 2010, Carneal was hired to lead RadSite and help develop the MIPPA Accreditation Program (MAP) for advanced diagnostic imaging. Previously, RadSite had been focused on offering imaging certification programs for both low- and high-tech imaging systems for payers and other clients. During Carneal’s tenure, RadSite has developed several accreditation programs covering CT, Cone Beam CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine Imaging. Most recently, RadSite launched the MAP Standards version 3.1 which includes specialty imaging modules.

“Helping guide RadSite over the past decade has been challenging in terms of maintaining its rigorous standards for advanced diagnostic imaging but also very rewarding,” notes Carneal. “Of the 25 different accreditation programs that I have helped bring to market since 1996, the RadSite standards represent the most complex set of review protocols of them all.”

Carneal holds a master’s degree from Yale University and a law degree from the University of Virginia. During his career, he has worked with a number of different organizations to develop or expand their quality-benchmarking activities through accreditation. Among other accomplishments, he oversaw the expansion URAC from one to 17 accreditation programs, covering a range of health insurance functions such as preferred provider organizations, case management programs, external review appeals, and HIPPA privacy and security. Carneal also worked with the American Telemedicine Association to develop a national accreditation program for telemedicine.

“Accreditation can help fill gaps in regulatory oversight, promote best practices, and create innovative standards in the ever-changing healthcare field—among other benefits,” notes Carneal. “Over the coming years, RadSite will continue to expand its accreditation portfolio, and I am honored to be part of the RadSite team to help navigate these future opportunities.”
