RadSite has launched its new Remote Scanning Accreditation Program. Remote scanning has taken off in recent years to:

  • Promote patient safety
  • Mitigate the technologist shortage
  • Enhance patient access and convenience
  • Boost operational efficiency
  • Optimize image quality and safety by leveraging more experienced technologists

The RadSite Remote Scanning Standards:

  • Are the first national standards covering remote MRI and CT scanning
  • Are approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

  • Establish the qualifications and responsibilities of key staff

  • Identify key operational workflows between the originating and distant sites

  • Address important communication and technical requirements

  • Create a framework for quality assurance and the tracking of key performance indicators

  • Require compliance with state laws and regulations

Background

In January 2021, RadSite developed an accreditation policy related to the use of remote imaging technologists for CT and MRI. The policy was approved by CMS in August 2021. Since its adoption, RadSite has required imaging suppliers with Remote Scanning Programs to self-attest that they comply with the policy.

In 2023, RadSite established a Remote Scanning Workgroup to collaborate with the RadSite Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Standards Committee. Together, they drafted the Remote Scanning Accreditation Program Standards and Guide, version 1.0. The new Remote Scanning Standards offer a detailed framework to support and evaluate Remote Scanning Programs. These Standards were reviewed and approved by RadSite’s Board of Directors and CMS in early 2025.

RadSite expects to announce its first wave of accredited remote scanning programs in the near future.
