Garry Carneal, JD MA
Chair, RadSite Board of Directors

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to help bring to market over 20 health accreditation programs through three different organizations. Since 2010, I also have had the privilege of working with RadSite to help develop the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers (MIPPA) Accreditation Program (MAP), which was recognized by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2013.

Although most of my previous work focused on developing standards for managed care and medical managements systems, overseeing the development of the RadSite MIPPA Standards perhaps was the most rewarding.

In addition to the diagnostic capabilities of advanced diagnostic imaging (and low tech imaging for that matter), the MAP Standards address not only the “processes” associated with how a provider and their staff treat a patient, but also focuses on the “technical component” of the equipment as well. The technical component includes a series of metrics looking at the image and physics quality associated with case studies produced by each system.

As a result, MAP covers both key workflows in the provider’s offices where patients are imaged and an essential quality check for the imaging equipment itself.

If you are a provider, you can learn more about RadSite’s MIPPA Accreditation Program by requesting a copy of the RadSite MAP Accreditation Standards, v 2.2 and/or application materials here.

If you are a consumer, I recommend that you check out RadSite’s Consumer Guide to Imaging Modalities. This useful publication provides an introduction to the different imaging modalities, how they work, and the benefits and risks. Understanding each type of imaging procedure is one step to ensure that each individual is informed and empowered—either as a patient or as the person providing guidance to a loved one. Also, ask your imaging provider if they are RadSite accredited or check here to view our online directory.
