Dr. Patton says that he joined the RadSite leadership team because “It’s exciting to be part of an organization that helps shape diagnostic image quality.” As the Chief Medical Physicist for RadSite, Phillip Patton, PhD, CHP, DABR, DABSNM, oversees creating the standards for everything related to physics with regard to accreditation of advanced imaging programs. He researches state-of-the-art techniques and equipment and works with other physicists to vet his findings. Based on his research, Patton drafts those standards into the physics portion of RadSite’s accreditation standards. He oversees the radiation safety component including radiation exposure trends, and any safety questions are referred to Dr. Patton. He also manages phantom image evaluations.
An important concern for any diagnostic imaging department is establishing and maintaining a radiation safety program. Dr. Patton ensures that RadSite’s customers establish and maintain As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) programs, which are the standard safety guide in radiation. He maintains strict adherence to ALARA and confirms that RadSite’s customers follow this rule. He also oversees the standards that require customers prepare, handle and dispose of radionuclides according to protocol, as well as have in place correct programs for emergency situations such as spills and many other aspects of safety.
Dr. Patton has been a medical physicist for over 19 years. He received his PhD is medical health physics from the University of Florida. Dr. Patton currently resides in Orlando, Florida where he is Founder and President of LBT Radiation Physics Consulting Ltd. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.
